The AQ6928 is a high-performance Layer2/4 Ethernet switching controller, providing twenty-four 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet ports and four 10/100/1000M Gigabit Ethernet ports with wire-speed switching capability
AQ6928 provides advanced Ethernet switching and network management functions, which make it suitable for any high-end enterprise and service provider Ethernet applications. It supports layer 2 and IPv4 frames switching, layer-4 multi-fields classification, metering, and accounting for DiffServ application. Also supports standard Spanning Tree Protocol operation, tag-based virtual LAN by IEEE 802.1Q, four priorities queues per port, link aggregation and all network management supports as well as more recent standards such as protocol based VLAN and per-VLAN spanning tree. It also provides functions for special applications such as port bandwidth limiting, address filtering, secure address mode, jumbo packet forwarding, etc., enabling most wide applications possible.
AQ6928 offers support for efficient implementation for stacking. The stacked devices can be connected as a daisy-chain or a full-duplex loop. The devices can locate each other and generate correct topology information for stack operation. When connected as a loop, the data traffic can use shortest route automatically, doubling the stacking bandwidth.
AQ6928 provides the most economical solution. All packet buffer memory and address table are embeded and no extra component is needed. A 32-bit CPU with instruction and data cache and all needed peripherals are embedded. A full management switch system can be built with only the flash memory, dynamic program memory and PHY devices.
